Jet Edge began development of ultra-high pressure (UHP) waterjet technology in 1984 as part of the Possis Corporation. Two product lines were started: 36,000 psi (2,500 bar) mobile line and 55,000 psi (3,800 bar) precision cutting line. In February 1994, Jet Edge was acquired by TC/American Monorail, a large Minneapolis based manufacturer of materials handling equipment.
TC/American Monorail was formed in 1990 by the merger of Twin City Monorail, American Monorail, and Spanmaster. American Monorail had been manufacturing industrial material handling systems since 1925. Both TC and American produced a complete line of monorails, including under-running and interlocking cranes as well as stacker cranes, unit handling systems, and aircraft maintenance systems. Spanmaster emphasized the integration of crane systems into new and existing metal building systems.
The acquisition of Jet Edge gave TC/American Monorail new opportunities that benefit both organizations. The strong synergies between the two companies include manufacturing, sales/marketing and accounting. Many of the components used in Jet Edge products are manufactured by companies under the TC/American Monorail umbrella giving Jet Edge full control of quality from start to finish.
Jet Edge employs approximately 50 people who make up the service, production, engineering, marketing, and sales departments. Jet Edge is housed in a 100,000 square foot (10,000 sq. m) facility which was finished in 1999. The building is divided into a 30,000 square foot (3,000 sq. m) office area and 70,000 square foot (7,000 sq. m) manufacturing area. We offer state-of-the-art test labs as well as product display and training rooms. Jet Edge is located in St. Michael, Minnesota, about 30 miles (48 kilometers) from downtown Minneapolis.
Jet Edge has a number of quality control checks to ensure the highest quality manufactured parts for our customers. The business of ultra-high pressure waterjet cutting is based on materials and material processing. Jet Edge vendors are selected not only on their capabilities to produce a part, but also on their ability to produce it when needed. To ensure that every part that enters our facility is within specification, it must pass through receiving inspection before going to inventory. Critical parts are serialized or identified with batch numbers for traceability. Relevant certificates, such as material and heat treatment certificates, are kept on file as part of the quality assurance program.
Jet Edge’s commitment to quality is emphasized through its numerous manufacturing certifications. Several components of our intensifier pump meet TÜV, ASME, Inspecta, and U/L standards. The TÜV certification enhances our commitment to comply with the CE Mark Directives established by the European Union (EU).
Jet Edge and TC/American Monorail have supplied equipment to a host of major industries such as automotive, aerospace, aircraft, and steel and routinely serve a number of Fortune 500 companies including United Airlines, Toyota Motors, Boeing, American Airlines, General Electric, General Motors, and Ford Motors. Our wide range of systems allows our sales force to give customers flexibility in choosing a system that meets their needs, giving them the most versatile cutting and/or cleaning tools available.
Jet Edge is a leader in designing and manufacturing ultra-high pressure waterjet cutting components and systems. Jet Edge offers a complete line of products from intensifier pumps to all accessories and sub-systems required for successful waterjet cutting.
